I am thinking today in colors instead of words and you are a sort of gray that never really blurs There are pinks and there are oranges in more shades than I can count But there's only one for me If you look at the sky it's easy to see that snow is on its way which means loneliness for me I'm told pick any snowflake, they're all lovely in their own way but there's only one for me Close to my bosom closer to my beat When you're asleep forgetting do you ever reach for me There are measures rules and limits, exceptions one musn't make but there's only one for me We will write a symphony with cellos and trombones it will have the grandest reprise if this love does endure as ingenius as Mozart, more suprising than we could hope 'cause there's only one for me

I want to cry make you look in my eyes and show you you have broken my heart but the warmth from your eyes then the cold from your heart would melt me and turn my tears to ice And here I am in my studio apartment hiding away in my bed squeezing my eyes shut, praying I won't wake up and dreaming of where I should be instead Now I'm afraid I will never escape from this low It doesn't feel good I don't feel proud at all The rain can shine the snow can fall I love it all but I'm drowning and I don't think I can hold myself up after all I can remember the year I turned twenty and never feeling more alive with dresses and parties, my first taste of love, and big hopes of healing a hurting world Now I'm afraid I will never escape from this low I can't smell sweetness no I can't taste salt at all The rain can fall all around all day long but nothing happens I'm beginning to think I may never grow When I wake up I want sparkling skies and a field where the bases are loaded and the bases are shed pieces of clothing and the laughter is my brothers' and sister's

black and brown stars, stars white suitcase, elephants pace pace pacing the dark rows in my mind searching for some sign of life comfort me comfort me comfort me cancer and suicide, suicide swallowed by water and earth Hades dragged my friends down so soon Pearly gates, streets of gold, light fire hell damnation, you fools theres no joy nor pain once the blood of life runs thin comfort me comfort me comfort me

He took his boat to the shore said what he wanted was more, to feel the sun on his skin, to feel something Was it a woman's love with a heart so pure it fills you up with all the good things a man's heart needs a full stomach an empty plate He took his boat to the shore though he hadn't sailed before he raised those sails to the wind let em take him Was it a dream you had your heart set on with so much passion it can't fizzle out Set out knowing it was yours for the taking with chalky hands and a clean slate He took his boat to the shore That was the last we saw of him He had a woman on his heart, or a dream on his mind or something he couldn't see yet

I might have been able to love you if it weren't for a man who opened my heart wide and left it exposed to sun and snow and rain I might have been able to sing to you if it weren't for the pain that wells up inside just before the notes fall out I say I'm sorry and put my guitar away So lay yourself down by golden- grey streams The good ones have gone the good ones have come Life is a daydream Life is a daydream You baked us a pie in your kitchen You shared a laugh with me Now I'm sorry to see you are going but a friend is all I can be but who says a friend's a small thing? Sometimes it's all you've got to keep yourselves together Through turbulent weather when the storms try and snatch you away So lay yourself down by golden-grey streams The good ones have gone the good ones have come Life is a daydream Life is a daydream Far away from this world is a place I'd rather live where you belong to no one but you give yourself to someone and they never give your gift away They keep it and store it as treasure They'll bite it to see if it's gold And they'll go wild with the possibilities They'll sleep with it till they are old So Lay yourself down by golden-grey streams The good ones have gone the good ones have come Life is a daydream Life is a daydream

Summer is a long way off, spring will come and go When my birthday comes around no one has to know I long for the sweet smells of the countryside but my home is there no more the city is my life Blueberry hills, where the work never stops and the bushes stay blue no matter how many barrels you fill He was my sweetheart, the one that i loved true There are no words to bring him back. There's nothing I can do but one day I will see him and married he will be and I'll have to push away the thought it might have been to me blueberry hills where the work never stops and the bushes stay blue no matter how many barrels you fill No matter what the weather I will climb this hill You may not see me for awhile or all together still, if you are patient you will see the light the sun won't scare you anymore You will be at peace with night Blueberry hills where the work never stops and the bushes stay blue no matter how many barrels you fill

I don't know what to say anymore I don't know where to tell you to turn If the present comes only disguised as the past I don't know what you're looking to hear I make myself strong when you're about to collapse when the ache in my own heart is overtaking me fast I see you giving up and I don't want you to settle Let's be honest with ourselves we are knitting the nettles And there are days when we can laugh The clouds break letting us relax But there are days our hopes melt like snow They disappear so slow and steady When they're gone we won't be ready while we are knitting the nettles I lower my eyes again to the toil between my hands but I catch a glimpse of us from time to time Finally letting princes find their own way through the night I make myself strong when you're about to collapse When the ache in my own heart is overtaking me fast I see you giving up and I don't want you to settle Let's be honest with ourselves we are knitting the nettles

Winter you're my twin sister cold as ice on the outside warm with fire on the inside Make off with the words to the song Bring it back in the summer Fresh on everyones' tongues When we love we use every part with all of our bodies with our whole hearts When disaster breaks down the front door when heartache curls up on the floor Breathing in but not out Singing but not loudly so as not to disturb anyone else Stay in control but lose myself, losing myself

They think I'm crazy for still holding on and I know they're probably right but they don't know words exchanged in the dark They only know what they know Maybe there's a time, maybe there's a way to let it all go and let love be waylaid Maybe there's a day but I don't see how It doesn't feel close to me The crying is over the silence has come as I realize there's nothing to be done You have forgotten the path to the place where we carved our names and our love ... I'm not the woman he met at the start He may not be the man who I thought but life keeps on going, there's breeze enough to push these sails along Maybe there's a time, maybe there's a way to let it all go and let love be waylaid Maybe there's a day but I don't see how It doesn't feel close, it doesn't feel close, no it doesn't feel close to me
